Beltway Bloggers Talkin Crazy

This is part 2 of Redskin blogger/media types making our 2010 Redskins predictions. Jamie Mottram from Mister Irrelevant (MI), Kevin Ewoldt from Hogs Haven (HH), and Danny Rouhier from 106.7 The Fan (DR) join me to make “crazy” predictions that may or may not come true. Yes, Danny is a little long winded and has a lot going on inside his head.
We made these predictions a couple weeks ago, I’m just getting around to posting them. That’s why HH and I are already correct on our predictions below.

Craziest Skins prediction you have that may actually come true?

DR - On an all out blitz, behind a shaky offensive line that has sustained an injury, forcing a well below average backup into action, McNabb gets hurt. He tries to come back too soon and gets hurt worse like Boobey Miles in Friday Night Lights. The Skins turn to Rex Grossman, fall apart, go 0-6 in the division and finish with an identical record to last year. Shanahan and Allen get fired and Vinny Cerrato is re-hired by Snyder as the GM. The team increases parking costs to $90 per game for the satellite lots.

FP - The Redskins go 11-5, win the NFC East and make a deep run in the playoffs.

HH - Carlos Rogers will shatter his career INT record (2) with 4.

MI - Mike Shanahan is one-and-done after this season with Kyle Shanahan taking over in 2011.

Craziest Skins prediction you have that has no shot of coming true?

DR - The new offense clicks and is a symphony of effective running and passing. The O-line plays all 16 games together with no major injury and the defense creates enough turnovers to beat some people early through the brutal first part of the season. The team gains momentum and avoids any major injury to key starters and stands at 11-4 heading into the final game of the year vs the Giants. It gets moved to primetime and we beat them 38-13 for the #2 seed in the NFC. We beat Atlanta who makes it to the divisional round and then travel to Green Bay for the NFC title game. We are down 3 with the ball and McNabb scores on a naked bootleg diving for the pilon. We lose in the Superbowl to the Chargers in the ultimate revenge for Norv Turner who actually pulls his pants down in the locker room to reveal a sign that says: ‘kiss my a$$ Snyder’ on his butt.

FP - Carlos Rogers plays the entire year without dropping a sure interception.

HH - The Redsksins employ a Special Teams trick play week 1 versus Dallas.

MI - Albert Haynesworth is the 2010 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.

Redskins/Cowboys: Random Thoughts

Jason Garrett sucks, I think he should be fired TODAY!!

I think when you call a timeout with 3 seconds left and you call a play you should remind you should demand Marion Barber to chip the best defensive player on the field…Brian Orakpo.

Marion Barber was running the ball with authority early, why stop giving it to him? Oh wait, I forgot Jason Garrett is our OC.

How does Felix Jones only get 10 touches? Jones is a difference maker and not giving him 15-20 touches is a joke.

Jason Witten had 3 receptions…really?

David Buehler sucks giant elephant dick, is Rafael Septien available?

Laron Landry and #64 on the Redskins are assholes. Landry celebrates every tackle and #64 jumps on every pile but never makes a tackle.

Redskins didn’t even score an offensive touchdown, they suck. Zero chance they compete in the NFC East.

Tony Romo looked awesome, he’s going to be the MVP of the NFL.

I don’t want to cut Alex Barron…I want him castrated.

Blogging the Boys pisses on Hogs Haven.

In closing I would like to say, that at least for this week…Ken and Kevin are better than I am at Fantasy Football.

Cheers and Hail

Should the DeAngelo Hall Touchdown Have Happened?

I’ve put my Fatpickled.com research staff (Google & Bud Light) to work trying to find an exact interpretation of the NFL rules regarding 10 second run offs in the final 2 minutes of each half. Why am I researching this? I’m not convinced the DeAngleo Hall touchdown should have ever happened.

Offensive penalties that require clock and play stoppages include a ten second runoff from the game clock in addition to the usual penalty. The game clock starts running again after the ball is set. The game clock runoff can be nullified if the team uses a timeout. The half automatically ends if the infraction occurs with less than ten seconds remaining and the violating team has no time outs to use.

My understanding of the above is this…if a team does not have a time out left and they commit a penalty, 10 seconds are run off the clock. If there’s less than 10 seconds left on the game clock, the half/game is over. The Cowboys had no time outs left and committed a holding penalty…yes it was Alex Barron, with 4 seconds remaining in the 1st half. We all know what happened next, but should that play even have been allowed to happen?

I’ve looked over several websites including the rule book located at NFL.com. It’s not really clear to me. Hopefully someone reading this will be able to get me a definitive answer. No matter what, I’m happy things turned out the way they did.

Cheers and Hail

NFL Week 1: Pickin on the NFL

Fatpickle picks nothing but WINNERS! I'm Jimmy the Greek and I endorse this message.

Here’s the rest of my week 1 picks. My goal for this year is to be 70% correct on straight up (SU) picks and 55% correct against the spread (ATS). Last season my final numbers were:

171-78 .69% SU
107-117 .48% ATS

MIA-3 @ BUF BUF 17 MIA 16

Not sure why I’m picking Buffalo here, they’re probably a 4 win team at best, so I guess they get one of them here. They always seem to play the Dolphins tough.

DET @ CHI -6.5 CHI 27 DET 17 (Survivor Lock of the Week)

Jay Cutler stunk last season but he still threw for 5 TD’s in 2 games against the Lions. Both Cutler and the Bears will be better this year, Bears get the win at home.

IND-2 @ HOU IND 21 HOU 20

Houston is the popular choice here and they may indeed win but I’m still picking the Colts for no particular reason.

DEN @ JAC-2.5 DEN 23 JAC 20

I’m pretty sure this is the season Jack Del Rio finally gets himself fired…but I’ve been saying that for 3 years. Look for a Tim Tebow goal line score, just got a feeling.

CIN @ NEP-5.5 NEP 24 CIN 21

The Patriots just aren’t the dynasty they used to be but they’re still tough at home, that may be too many points!

CAR @ NYG-6.5 NYG 23 CAR 17

I’m not sold on Matt Moore, then again I’m still not sold on Eli Manning and he’s got a Super Bowl ring, oh well.

ATL-1.5 @ PIT ATL 21 PIT 17

This is a game that I wouldn’t touch with a 10 foot pole if I was actually betting.

CLE @ TBB-2.5 CLE 20 TBB 16

The Bucs are terrible and so is Raheem Morris. I heard the over/under for the Bucs season wins is 5.5, that’s easy money take the under.

OAK @ TEN-6.5 TEN 27 OAK 14

Oakland will be better, but starting the season with an east coast game against the Titans will not equal a victory.

GBP-3 @ PHI GBP 27 PHI 20

I think it’s a joke the SI and other media are picking the Eagles to win the NFC East, this team goes backwards this year.

SFF-3 @ SEA SFF 23 @ SEA 17

The 49er’s were my pick to win their division last year, I was a year off.

ARI-3.5 @ STL STL 17 ARI 16

Here’s an upset, Sam Bradford has looked good in the pre-season and Derek Anderson is as accurate as a morning wood piss.

DAL-3.5 @ WAS WAS 21 DAL 20 (Upset Special)

DC will be fired up and the Redskins will be prepared, this is an W my friends.

BAL @ NYJ-1.5 BAL 17 NYJ 13

I just don’t think that the Jets are a Super Bowl contender. However, if Joe Flacco can eliminate mistakes, the Ravens are a Super Bowl contender.

SDC-5 @ KCC SDC 30 KCC 17

I picked this game to have the largest margin of victory. That being said it’s always tough to play in KC and anything can happen. Confused? Yes I am.

Cheers and Hail
